In Psalm 83 Israel’s enemies are listed. The same enemies as they had 3,000 years ago are currently attacking them! It is not always blood that unites a people, but the power of belief. They have different names now but there are many descendants of “Abram’s children” all around and even in present day Israel. Terrorizing innocent people just like the Philistines used to. Hamas is in Gaza, which is just one city that used to be in the ancient Philistine land. Hezbollah is in Lebanon, which was the ancient territory of the Phoenicians, with cities like Tyre and Sidon. ISIS is in Syria, among other groups vying for control.
Almost all of the surrounding nations want Israel wiped off the map! The people listed in this psalm have the same goal and with one mind they conspire to destroy the tiny nation. This prophecy is just as true now as it was then and until Israel can defeat the “Inner Ring of Fire” or make peace with them, God says they will be a thorn in their side. Without American support and protection the “Outer Ring of Fire” nations (Russia, Turkey, Iran) would surely overwhelm Israel. With America and Israel allied together the “Inner Ring of Fire” can be defeated and peaceful times may come about. It is only after this that the “Great War of Gog and Magog” (Ezekiel 38 & 39) can happen. After Israel makes peace with the “Inner ring” nations and American support dwindles, do the “Outer Ring” nations look toward attempting to attack Israel. This may seem to happen quite slowly to us but make no mistake it is beginning to happen now! This is why it is so important for America to stay strongly allied with Israel! It is literally keeping the “Outer Ring” nations from starting the next big prophetic war with Israel.
Psalm 83:
O God, do not remain silent;
do not turn a deaf ear,
do not stand aloof, O God.
See how your enemies growl,
how your foes rear their heads.
With cunning they conspire against your people;
they plot against those you cherish.
“Come,” they say, “let us destroy them as a nation,
so that Israel’s name is remembered no more.”
With one mind they plot together;
they form an alliance against you—
the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites,
of Moab and the Hagrites,
Byblos, Ammon and Amalek,
Philistia, with the people of Tyre.
Even Assyria has joined them
to reinforce Lot’s descendants.
Do to them as you did to Midian,
as you did to Sisera and Jabin at the river Kishon,
who perished at Endor
and became like dung on the ground.
Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb,
all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna,
who said, “Let us take possession
of the pasturelands of God.”
Make them like tumbleweed, my God,
like chaff before the wind.
As fire consumes the forest
or a flame sets the mountains ablaze,
so pursue them with your tempest
and terrify them with your storm.
Cover their faces with shame, LORD,
so that they will seek your name.
May they ever be ashamed and dismayed;
may they perish in disgrace.
Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD —
that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.
